Frequently Asked Questions – Excess Protect

What is GoShorty Excess Protect?

GoShorty Excess Protect is an optional add-on you can purchase with your temporary insurance. It helps you recover up to £500 of the excess that you would have to pay if you needed to make a claim on your GoShorty temporary insurance policy during your cover period.

What does Excess Protect cover?

This add-on reimburses you for up to £500 of the excess amount stated on your GoShorty Certificate of Insurance in the event of a settled claim on a GoShorty temporary insurance policy where you are unable to recover your excess from a third party.

How much does Excess Protect cost?

The cost of Excess Protect depends on the duration of your temporary insurance policy. You can find the exact price during the purchase journey.

Are there any situations not covered by Excess Protect?

Excess Protect may not cover claims in certain circumstances, such as:

  • Where your GoShorty policy itself excludes cover.
  • Where the compulsory policy excess hasn’t been exceeded.
  • Any claim for windscreen, glass or keys.
  • Where there has been more than one claim in any period of insurance.
  • Any excess amount due to your insurer that exceeds the £500 of cover provided by this add-on.

For a full list of exclusions, please refer to both your GoShorty policy wording for your relevant insurer, and the Excess Protect policy wording.

Is Excess Protect mandatory?

No, GoShorty Excess Protect is an optional add-on. You can choose to purchase it for protection against your excess payment, or rely on the standard terms of your main insurance policy.

Can I add Excess Protect after I’ve purchased my temporary insurance?

Unfortunately, Excess Protect cannot be added after you’ve purchased your temporary insurance policy. You can only add it while buying your GoShorty temporary insurance policy.

How do I make an Excess Protect claim?

To make a claim, please get in touch via email or telephone using the details contained within the Policy Wording.

It’s important to note that Excess Protect is an additional cover, separate to your short-term motor insurance. You will need to pay your insurer your excess in the first instance, prior to claiming back the excess from the Excess Protect provider.

Can Excess Protect be cancelled?

Excess Protect policies can be cancelled should you no longer require cover, however due to the short-term nature of the policy, no refund will be due should you wish to terminate cover after the policy has started.
