The Motor Insurance Database, or MID, is the central record of all insured vehicles in the UK. It is managed by the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) and is used by the Police and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) to enforce motor insurance laws, ensuring that vehicles driven on our roads are insured at all times.
Here at GoShorty we upload new policy information on behalf of our insurer partners to the MID database 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
If the MID is open for business, so are we!
Uploads are completed twice daily, once in the morning at 9am and again in the afternoon at 2pm, with vehicle information showing on the MID within an hour of following submission, often sooner.
So for example, a GoShorty policy bought at 6am would be uploaded to MID at 9am, a policy bought at 1pm would be sent over at 2pm and a policy purchase at 10pm would be uploaded at 9am the following morning.
It is a requirement that all insurers provide 95% of policy information to the MID within 7 days of the policy commencing. This means that a vehicle not yet appearing on the database can still be legally insured in the UK, it just hasn’t been uploaded to the MID yet. Because of this, we’d always advise you to have a copy of your policy documents to hand when using the insured vehicle, whether that be in digital form, or a printed copy, allowing you to prove that you are covered should the need arise.
If you’re stopped, and your insurance isn’t showing on MID, you don’t need to worry. It is not a legal requirement to show up on askMID. From the moment you buy cover from us, your insurance is valid at your selected dates and times. Your policy documents are your proof of cover – show them to the police officer, and you will have proved your insurance.
Payments are processed by Worldpay on our behalf who use their own secure server.
We accept the following cards: VISA, VISA ELECTRON, MASTERCARD, MAESTRO
Try putting your details through again. If you continue to have a problem, please contact your card issuer for advice. For data protection reasons, your card issuer will not disclose to us the reason for a card being declined.
